There was a reddit community called r/gooncaves where fellow gooners shared their setups. Multiple monitors, porn collections, etc. The word goon didn't start being used by the wider internet until 4chan made mockery of this community. There was a video that was passed around on 4chan which exposed it, that video no longer exists on youtube, and neither does the reddit forum, it was deleted.

I've learned that the road to normalization often begins with parody. The concept of gooning was gross and shocking, but then 4chan mocks it, ironically parodies it, then the wider internet caries it, and before you know it, the word goon is just normalised, the concept of gooning is normal.
