Since the state is said to represent the will of the workers, you are supposed to think of it as yours, even when it is being used against you. Your level of influence as well as your access to privileges comes down to your position within the state and the social standing of yourself and your family. The individual worker and his wants and desires is treated as unimportant, the state is treated as the manifestation of the workers and resistance against oppression is framed as violence against the workers and punishable by imprisonment or death.

Decisions regarding labour, what gets produced, who produces it etc is decided by the people in power, according to some central plan with harsh consequences for those who fail to meet quotas or rock the boat by demanding better treatment in the workplace.
